A True History of the Hula Hoop

A True History of the Hula Hoop is a non fiction novel, a story of the search for the history of the hula hoop, which also becomes a personalised history. And twisted through these storylines is added excerpts from the Great Clown Kidnapping of 1572 which show the historical archetypes and antecendants of the performance genre and provide an example of the metaxis of the modern clown.
The search for the history of the hula hoop takes us into correspondance with the ex President of the Brotherhood of Magicians, a Chinese Living National Treasure and onto the vaudeville stage of the 1890s. The personalised history follows the story of a broach from Paris and the devlopment of the hula hoop virtuosa from a contemporary circus in Western Australia to the Moscow State Circus School, the Burlesque scene in London and a Winter Circus in Spain and various strange, difficult and wonderful experiences in the squares and placas of the international street thatre and circus world, and the voice of a Dwarf hidden as a wedding present in 1572 speaks for the subconcious of the writer caught in difficult situations in 2005.
An attempt to answer in the form of a novel all the questions people ask about the life of a hula hoopist.
